Experience has shown, however, that the best way to avoidtalking about the pictures is to talk about their subjects - tracthouses or fields or trees, or any of the myriad and interesting detailsof life. If you have to fill the quiet of a picture, the leastdestructive way seems to be to speak about what was in front of thecamera rather than about what you made of it. The first is interesting perceptions, be they be about the culture, the environment, human nature, art, one's self, etc. The second is an understanding of how photography translates the world in front of the camera. Without the first, one would have nothing to communicate. Without the second, one would not have a visual language to communicate one's perceptions. I chose as my aim to clarify the latter - the language inherent to photography. Regards,Stephen
